"Dark City" preceded "The Matrix" by about a year or two, and I feel this movie was more successful at creating suspenseful and action-packed sequences while staying true to the psychological and philosophical fundamentals that the main plot of the film was built on. This was a film I stumbled upon by accident one night while 'surfing' through my cable channels, but as it turned out, this was a good accident! My initial viewing had me filled with excitement, curiousness, and anxiety as I followed the main character's journey to discover not only his missing identity, but to also solve the mystery of the city always shrouded in darkness. Read full reviewĪ well-executed, thinking-man's sci-fi film! If you aren't a fan (or haven't ever seen the flick), this is a great way to (re)view in as close a form as when it was presented originally in theaters. ![]() If you are a fan of this movie, this is the definitive version to own. That said, the sound field is full, deep, articulate and enveloping. While cool, the addition of the two rear speakers are discrete channels is onl y a slight improvement over what Pro Logic IIx accomplishes from a normal 5.1 source. Don't get too wrapped up in the 7.1 aspect of the track. The sound quality is AWESOME! The 7.1 DTS-MA soundtrack is nothing short of great. What little color is present is nicely presented. The blacks are dense, but shadow detail remains apparent. Providing an impeccable video transfer, this film looks like it was made this year. With this Blu Ray re-issue, the makers have gone back to the source. This cult-ish flick is certainly not for everyone, but there is a lot more to the movie than just some weird sci-fi, buildings that shape-shift and creepy thin guys that can "tune." I happen to love the aesthetic, the story and the acting. ![]() I'll spare the reader a review of the movie.
